News of former soloists

Dominic Barberi our bass soloist for the Mozart Requiem in April 2011 and Handel's Messiah in 2013 is a finalist in this year's BBC Cardiff Singer of the world which takes place from 11 - 18 June this year.  I'm sure choir members will be following his progress with interest and cheering him on.

Dominic is now with the Staatsoper Berlin where he has sung several roles under the baton of Daniel Barenboim.

Rowan Pierce, from Saltburn on Sea was the soprano soloist in both those performances with Dominic and she was also the soloist at our Christmas 2012 concert when we sang John Rutter's Magnificat and she sang some solo items. She has recently been awarded the prestigious President's Award at the Royal College of Music and took part in a concert for the President (HRH the Prince of Wales) given by the RCM's most prestigious recent graduates. Rowan has also been on the Samling Artists programme and has performed with recognised world class artists such as Sir Thomas Allen, Dame Ann Murray and Carolyn Sampson.

We are very fortunate as a choir to have had such exceptional singers to perform with us at an early stage in their careers. Both were members of the Tees Valley Youth Choir under John Forsyth MBE and have been mentored by him as their solo careers have developed.

We wish them both well as they undoubtedly take their places on the world stage.
