'Messiah' Workshop day

On Saturday 28 January we held a workshop day on choruses from Messiah with the intention of letting anyone interested in joining the choir, experience how Edward Seymour rehearsed his singers. With Andrew Christer at the piano we began with 'And the Glory of the Lord'  and covered a good selection of other choruses - though not 'All we like sheep' - ending with 'Worthy is the Lamb' and the amazing 'Amen'.

Having spent time rehearsing before and after lunch and seeing just how thorough Edward is in this training, we had a final break before coming back to do a 'performance' rendering of most of them with Andrew on the pipe organ of the Methodist Church. The combination of voices and organ made a splendid sound!

There were 27 visiting singers who joined us for the day and several of them turned up on Monday evening to join us to sing as members of the choir. We hope they'll continue to enjoy singing with us, especially for our concert on 13 May in St Mary's. We extend a warm welcome to all of them.
