Come & Sing Morning

Our Come and Sing morning was held on Saturday 1 October in Richmond Methodist Church where we normally hold our rehearsals and was a most enjoyable event.

Edward began with some warm-ups which get everyone on their toes before starting on the 'Messiah' choruses he had selected for the day. Starting with 'And the Glory of the Lord' we went on to sing 'And with his stripes', a great example of a fugue, and obviously one of Edward's favourites, and Hallelujah. We also sang 'O Fortuna' and 'EcceGratum' from Carl Orff's setting of 'Carmina Burana'.

Unfortunately there wasn't time to sing 'Worthy is the Lamb' and 'Amen' from 'Messiah' but we ended the morning with a rousing rendition of 'Hallelujah'. Having done two superb performances of 'Messiah' in 2009 and 2013, we now have high hopes of our 2017 performance as Edward obviously has the same regard for this amazing work as our previous two MDs both of whom saw it as not just a well-known work that would attract an audience.

We were particularly delighted to have 4½ month Joshua there with his choir member Mum, Ali. Quite a few people were there just to give it a go and we hope we may see some of them coming to join the choir in the future.
